Maia at 11 months: first attempts to walk

So by now we can be pretty sure that Maia won't ever crawl. So what?. Big deal. The girl is one hell of a scooter, and you better believe that she can get anywhere by scootin'. If you offer her a Graham cracker (her very favorite snack) she'll literally fly accross the room to get it, in that funny stop-go sliding motion that keeps our floors shiny and glittering.

And when she gets tired of that rather subhuman means of transportation, she tries the real thing on her two little feet. As you may know, it's a lot of fun for us parents, being right there every second bending over her. Unlimited fun!

So, the other day Maia officially became a citizen of the Empire: she got her new American passport in the mail. We don't know whether she wanted to get any message through, but when she grabbed it, she immediately proceeded to chew on it, repeatedly. Did she want to convey any meaning with this bold move? A political conviction? A radical response to The Man? We would rather not read too much into it.

Anyway, Maia got her passport because, yeah! we're going on vacation to Chile! And, of course, our little gringa needs a passport ot get into the third world. It's funny how things work out: our daughter is a tourist in her parent's lands.
